Mitchell’s Plain Education Forum
The Mitchell’s Plain Education Forum (MPEF) has launched many campaigns since its inception, and continues to strive to help every young person in Mitchell’s Plain to gain access to the best education possible.
The MPEF initiated programmes giving mathematics and science tutorials, which was taken over by the Western Cape Education Department (and unfortunately since discontinued). It works at addressing school sport and extramural initiatives, as well as successfully co-ordinating ‘second chance’ programmes for Grade 12s who achieve poor results, and mobilising support to improve school infrastructure.
The MPEF launched the Mitchell’s Plain Skills Centre, where youth are taught skills aimed to launch them into the world of work or of entrepreneurship.
The MPEF continues to actively address challenges facing the youth of the community, including issues around placing all pupils in schools, and raising the pass rates and grades achieved. It seeks to improve the quality of education at primary schools, and supports well-functioning, active and dynamic school governing bodies at every school.
The expansion of opportunities for early childhood development to every child in Mitchell’s Plain is another objective that the MPEF strives for.
