The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

Jamie Payne

My name is Jamie-Lee Payne. I grew up in Mitchell’s Plain and attended Cedar High School. I am a final-year Law student at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). I was raised by my Grandma because my mom was working. I graduated top of my school in matric and the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust agreed to pay my tuition fees. In 2016 my Ma passed away and my Pa threatened to sell the house. I was forced to move and had nowhere to go.

I approached the Trust who helped me with accommodation and a food allowance. I am even more appreciative towards the Trust for extending their help. I have been doing exceptionally well in my studies and I have surpassed my expectations by obtaining a place on the Dean’s Merit List.

I will be a Criminal Law Defence Candidate Attorney next year.
