The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

My name is Adam-Lee Arendse I’m 19-years old.  I’m from Heinz Park in Mitchell’s Plain. I attended Aloe Senior Secondary School and matriculated in 2017. I’m a first-year student at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) where I’m doing a 4-year Bachelor of Education degree course, specializing in Senior phase and further educational training. The Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust literally means everything to me. Looking back, I never thought I would be able to get a tertiary education because I was raised by a single, unemployed parent. The Trust gave me an opportunity. When no-one else saw potential in me, the Trust did, and gave me a chance to improve my life. My plans for the future are to graduate, and to go into the education system to bring about change in Mitchell’s Plain and to touch people’s lives just like the Trust did for me.
