The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

Carla Lindt

I am Carla Lindt and I come from Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain and matriculated at Mondale High School in 2014. I completed my BA (General) degree at UWC in 2017 and graduated in April 2018. I am enrolled as a BA Hons student in the Afrikaans en Nederlands Department at UWC. This is my fourth year at this institution and I consider myself lucky to be funded by the Trust throughout my studies. This bursary made my studies possible by lifting the financial strain faced by my family. The Trust not only provides funding but guidance and support throughout the year. They have become family that I can count on. My future plans are to study further in the Afrikaans en Nederlands Department to become a lecturer at UWC. I also plan to be a donor and/or a trustee of the Bursary Trust and hope to get people from other communities on the Cape Flats to have the same initiative to help young adults reach their goals.
