Chevonne Angelique Bredekamp

My name is Chevonne Angelique Bredekamp. I was born, and still live in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain. I attended Oval North High School from 2011, and matriculated in 2015. I am in my third year at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), studying Biotechnology. Essentially biotechnology is the use of organisms in the production of novel products that can be used to improve everyday life. This is my final year and I am looking forward to the next phase of my life. The author J. K. Rowling said that it is our moral responsibility, when we’ve been given more than we require, to do with it wisely and give intelligently. This does not only refer to material things, but to knowledge as well. Biotechnology has changed the world so much already. I feel that I have a responsibility to use my knowledge to do the same. This bursary has given me the opportunity to study, to obtain the knowledge that I require, to be able to help people and to make the world a better place.
