Jean-Pierre Sauls
My name is Jean-Pierre Sauls, and as far back as I can remember, I’ve lived in a well-known community of Tafelsig. I attended both Tafelsig Primary and Tafelsig High, so the community really lies close to my heart. Tafelsig is often ridiculed, but it has taught me different life lessons. Crime and poverty is rife in my community, but I didn’t let that get to me. I flipped the switch and now I’m a second-year student at UWC, studying towards a BA Degree in Geography and Environmental Science. The goal is to come back to my community and teach at Tafelsig High. By doing so I’ll not only follow my dream, but I’ll become a role model, something the Trust has instilled in me. The Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust family does not only help with funding of my studies, but they are a vital support system. I’ll be forever indebted to them.
