Juanita Plaaitjies

I am a 19-year-old from Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain. I was raised by a big family who continue to support and motivate me in things I partake in. My hobbies are reading, acting, swimming and resciting and writing poems. My passion is Dramatic Artsit is part of my life and of who I am.

I attended Cedar High School of Arts, and am now in my first year at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, studying Public Relations Management.

After I get my diploma I would love to go into the media field, as a writer or somewhere in the line of communications. I had the opportunity of working for the annual Cape Town Jazz Festival, and this gave me an insight into the media industry. I cannot wait to kick off my career!

My mother is unemployed, so in that sense the bursary from MPBRMT assisted me financially. The fact that I am a recipient of the bursary shows me that there is hope for learners from underprivileged areas to study. I am thankful to the bursary Trustees for continuously motivating us and encouraging us to stay focused.

The bursary makes a huge difference in my life because I always worried how I would pay for my tuition fees, and it has assisted in resolving that problem. A big thanks goes out to the MPBRMT and Trustees, because now I am the first person in my family to study further. After the bursary pays out, I would like to get a part-time job to pay the funds I owe.
