The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

Kaashiefah Kistnasamy

I am Kaashiefah Kistnasamy, a fourth-year medical student at Stellenbosch University. I am from Rondevlei, Mitchells Plain. I attended Spine Road High School in Rocklands. My principal, Mr Najaar recommended that I apply to the Mitchells Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust as I had told him of my desperate need for funds as my registration fees were due. The trust has been helping me ever since and I hope to return one day as a qualified doctor and offer my contribution to the trust and help many students as they have helped me. If all goes well, I will be graduating in 2020 and start my internship. Thereafter I will have to do one year of community service. I definitely want to specialize after completing community service. However, I am still uncertain in which branch of medicine I would like to specialize as I find most branches of medicine fascinating and enthralling.
