The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

I am Keshia Cherel Urias, a second-year undergraduate at the University of Cape Town (UCT), studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology. Many might see me as just another ordinary 19-year old who matriculated from Spine Road High, but I believe that I was destined for great things and thanks to the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust, I am able to achieve my dreams of becoming a medical researcher once, (God-willing) I complete my honours. Without the Trust, I don’t know how I would account for the shortfall towards my university fees. Besides the great financial help, the Trust has given me a second family. Other students I can turn to and who encourage me when the workload becomes overwhelming. May the Trust continue to show that Mitchell’s Plain has born leaders! We are breaking the status quo.
