The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

Meggan Van Harte

My name is Meggan Van Harte, I am from Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain. I attended Beacon Hill Secondary School and I had a blast of a time. That was considered my second home and so were the teachers I was close to. I am studying towards a National Diploma in Management and it’s my third year at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. I will be graduating in December this year. Coming from my background there was no money to study, so I was filled with joy and felt blessed when the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust gave me the opportunity to follow my dream and not worry about where the money would come from. I appreciate the Trust for what they have done for me and are still doing for all the recipients.  They gave us hope to follow our dreams and to rise above our circumstances. My future plan is to gain experience at the company where I am doing my internship and to grow as much as I can. Then I want to work my way up to being manager of a company in a few years’ time and eventually fulfil my dream of becoming a CEO.
