Merissa Schrikker
My name is Merissa Schrikker. I was born and raised in the colourful Plain. I live with my parents and my twin sister – yes there are two of me. I matriculated at Cedar High School of the Arts where I thoroughly enjoyed expressing myself through Design. Taking the knowledge, values and skills I acquired, I embarked on a journey at Cape Peninsula University of Technology where I pursued a course which would allow me to give back and instil hope, dreams and character in others in the classroom. I am completing my fourth and final year in my Education course and look forward to the challenges ahead. I was given the life-changing opportunity of being funded by the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust. With the funding I was able to attend class, participate in practicals and examinations without having to worry about the financial constraints that so many others face at university. I was given a hand up towards a better quality of life. My plans are endless. I intend to grow through further studies in various fields so that I can broaden my horizon. I would like to help others in the same way I was helped. To be able to influence, be a beacon of hope and bring others to understand that our dreams are not as far from us as we think.
