Seonaid Kabiah
I am Seonaid Kabiah, 20, from Rocklands, Mitchell’s Plain. I attended Glendale Secondary School where I matriculated with five distinctions in 2015. I am in my third year of studies at the University of Cape Town, obtaining my Bachelor of Arts majoring in English Language and Literature, Afrikaans and Nederlands and Sociology. In 2020, I plan to do my honours in Development Sociology and thereafter work in the development sector. area, whether it is within the NPO, NGO or private sector. For the past three years I have been involved with leadership, youth development and community service in various ways; tutoring, mentoring, helping at soup kitchens and doing motivational speaking. I have served as a Youth Leader at my church, been the Director of a UCT-run mentorship project and currently Deputy Chairperson of Ubunye (which co-ordinates three development programmes run in under-resourced schools in Cape Town). The Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust has financially helped me reach my dream of studying and I am extremely grateful for that. The assistance has not only helped me but my family, as I am the first to attend a tertiary institution and will be able to take care of my family one day.
