Takalani Yolanda Tshililo
My name is Takalani Yolanda Tshililo. I was born in Makhado, Limpopo, but moved to Cape Town to study. I matriculated from Glendale Secondary School in Mitchell’s Plain. This is where my passion for social sciences began. I was accepted at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where I studied Bsocscie majoring in sociology, gender studies and social development. After graduating, I registered for Bsocscie Honours in Development Studies at UCT in 2017. I am currently reading for my Mphil in Development Studies at UCT, which is a two-year programme. All these qualifications were achieved through the help of the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust. The Trust has been a great support in my academic and personal journey. They have been involved in different ways which includes emotional, financial and social support. This has made the journey easier and through their support I have been able to achieve excellent results. My next step after completing my Master’s degree is to register for PhD at UCT. My vision is to run a non-governmental organisation for the youth in disadvantaged communities. This is to provide opportunities and support to the youth, and uplift them from social ills.
