The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

Angela Cupido

I’m Angela Cupido and I attended Woodlands Secondary School.  I’m a third-year student, studying SPFET B ED (teaching) at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). I did not have a bursary when I started my first year. This made the first few months at university very difficult, because I was worried about my fees. Luckily the Mitchells Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust gave me an opportunity. I can truly say if it wasn’t for the Trust, I would not have been able to study. After I obtain my degree, I will apply at a school in Mitchell’s Plain and do my honours part-time. I want to work in Mitchells Plain to show children whose parents cannot afford university fees, that there are people out there who are willing to assist you in achieving your dreams.
