The Mitchells Plain Bursary and role model trust is a South African registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in terms of both section 30 and 18A of the Income Tax Act. A PBO which is recognised under section 18A is entitled to issue receipts to South African donors under section 18A(2). Armed with those receipts, the donors can treat their donations to the PBO as tax-deductible expenses (thereby effectively only paying sixty (60) percent of the face value of the donation).

Role Model Development Workshop 2026

Developing responsible leaders and role models

The Mitchells Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust’s Role Model Development Workshop 2026 focused on ethical AI, leadership and good stewardship, helping recipients make the most of their educational opportunities.

Facilitated by Upward Capacitation Workshops, the programme explored responsible use of artificial intelligence in studies and future careers, academic integrity, critical thinking and data privacy. It also encouraged recipients to lead with integrity, resilience and a commitment to serving others.

Through discussion and practical reflection, recipients explored how to manage their bursary responsibly, honour their commitments and represent the Trust positively. The workshop emphasised that being a role model begins with everyday choices – in the classroom, at home and in the community.
